Fun With Percussion

Fun With Percussion

Ready to try something new?  Journey into the jungle and sound like a rainforest!  This class introduces the basics of drumming, including learning how to keep the beat, and play as a group.  Once comfortable with the basics, the class will start drumming and grooving to the sound of jungle drums. This is a fun, hands-on class that will help improve your ability with other instruments, not just drums.  Bring hand drums and percussion instruments if you have them. Suitable for ages 10 to 15 years.

Lauri Lyster is a versatile musician, equally at home playing classical, jazz , ethnic percussion and the drum set. She is a percussionist with the Vancouver Opera Orchestra, and has been a member of the lauded Celtic ensemble Winter Harp for 12 years.  She has worked with jazz bands, chamber ensembles, dance groups and recorded for television and film. Lauri recently wrote and performed in her own show, ‘The Drummer Girl’, about being a woman making a living playing drums and percussion. One of Lauri’s real joys is teaching workshops to adults and children alike, sharing her love of all things rhythmic!
